Cloth shroud: everything at a glance

The cloth shroud that fits best

Since we have many different types of fabric shrouds in our assortment, we are happy to help you make a choice. On this page you will find information about all our fabrics in a row, so that you can decide for yourself which fabric suits you or a deceased person best.

Hemp

The hemp fabric of our Hemp wading is an environmentally friendly product that has a beige earth tone of its own: dark ecru. The coarse weaving method makes the material beautifully drapeable. Hemp is one of the fastest growing crops that exist and the plant does not require artificial fertilizer, which prevents pollution of the soil and waterways. No pesticides are needed either. All in all, this makes hemp a very sustainable material. Read more about hemp production and the special properties of hemp textiles here.

Flannel

For our Soft shroud we use flannel that is woven from unbleached organic cotton . The fabric is roughened on both sides, which makes the weave feel particularly soft and thick. The fabric is not dyed and has the original cotton color: ecru. The fabric falls smoothly and is therefore easy to fold and drape. The cotton that we use for our Soft shrouds is 100% organic. The cotton is processed into flannel in Izmir, Turkey. The cotton from this area is one of the most beautiful types there is. This can be seen and felt in this cloth shroud.

Canvas

The canvas we use for our Colored Canvas Shrouds is made of cotton. The stiffness of the fabric gives the shrouds a powerful look. Despite this stiffness, it is a breathable fabric. The fabric is solid colored, which gives the shrouds a powerful and serene look when folded.

Side

Our Matka silk wade and our Bourette silk wade are both made of silk. Matka silk is generally a bit coarser than most silk, and Bourette silk is even a bit coarser. Due to the coarse weave, the silk falls less smoothly than linen, but certainly not as stiff as hemp. In general, silk looks luxurious, but the fabric retains a natural look due to the coarse weave. It always has a subtle sheen that deepens the shadow and light effect of the folds. Curious about how silk is made? Read more about silk production here.

Canvas

Our Thick Canvas shroud is made of sturdy, breathable canvas. This canvas is woven from unbleached organic cotton, and has the natural cotton ecru color. The sturdy fabric folds quite stiffly, which emphasizes the folds. This gives the shroud a tough, solid look. Read more about our Organic Canvas .

Denim

The denim we use for our Spijkerstof wade is a sturdy cotton type that has a nice breathable character. The fabric is woven with a twill weave, which makes diagonal lines visible. The denim we use is made of organic cotton. This denim is produced in Izmir, Turkey. This area is known for its relatively soft and beautiful cotton. Denim was once invented by gold prospectors and has a rich history underground. Do you want to know more about this? Then read our Organic Denim here.

Wool

Our Thick wool wade is made of Dutch wool. It is special that this fabric is produced locally, since wool mills have slowly disappeared from the Netherlands in recent years. Almost all local wool is since then exported as a residual product to Chinese weaving mills or burned as a waste product, which means that wool often has a major environmental impact. The wool of our Thick wool wade comes from flocks of sheep that are used for nature conservation, and the cloth is produced locally. The wool is sturdy, thick and very soft, so that the body can be wrapped pleasantly and with dignity.
