Design

The Wikkelbaar is a carrier and shroud in one, developed by Carolien Haver. Carolien is a versatile artist and self-taught. Through working with wool, her experiences with its quality and the variety of possibilities, the idea for a woolen Wikkelbaar arose. Sustainability was the starting point, which goes hand in hand with abundance; every year beautiful wool comes from the sheep. The Wikkelbaar is therefore made with the heaviest quality wool possible.

Usage

There are holds on the sides with which the Wikkelbaar can be carried. Although it can also be used without, the Wikkelbaar comes with a woolen closure strap. Inside the woolen lining is a wooden base plate. This has a raised edge, in order for it to meet the requirements of crematoria. Still, always contact the crematorium or funeral director to find out what the exact requirements are.

Sustainable, local wool

The Wikkelbaar is made of 100% Dutch wool. This is special, as wool weaving mills have slowly disappeared from the Netherlands in recent years. Almost all local wool has since been exported as a residual product to Chinese weaving mills or burned as a waste product, which means that wool often carries with it major environmental impact. The wool of the Wikkelbaar comes from flocks of sheep that are used for nature conservation, and the cloth is produced locally.
