Our organic denim is produced in Izmir, Turkey. Our supplier always goes to Izmir herself to purchase the fabrics. This way she can keep an eye on the quality herself and experience the atmosphere in the workshop. She has been pleased with both the atmosphere and the quality for years, and that makes this a very pleasant collaboration.
The history of denim
The characteristic texture of denim is created by the fabric being woven in two colours of yarn. An indigo-coloured warp is used, in combination with white weft threads. The blue dye that was originally used was called “Bleu de Gênes” in French, which later became popularly known as bluejeans. Denim fabric was first used for sturdy mining trousers. The fabric owes its name denim to the type of cotton it was made of at the time: Serge de Nîmes.
Organic cotton
The organic cotton of the denim fabric comes from the area around the Aegean Sea. Here the producer takes utmost care in the cultivation of cotton. This results in a beautiful, even result with consistent quality. The cotton from this area is one of the most beautiful types there is. This can both be seen and felt in the fabrics.
GOTS certified
The entire production process of this organic denim is GOTS-certified. The GOTS certificate guarantees that the entire production chain is sustainable: No pesticides or artificial fertilizers are used during cultivation. The working conditions also meet strict requirements. Below are some of the criteria:
- The work is done of free will;
- The right to freedom of association and collective bargaining is respected;
- Working conditions are safe and hygienic;
- No child labor is used;
- The salary falls within the minimum wage;
- No excessive working hours;
- There is no discrimination;
- Regular work is provided;
- Mistreatment or inhumane treatment of personnel is prohibited.
Denim shroud
The Denim shroud is made of this organic denim. The shroud is indigo blue on the outside and light blue on the inside. This gives a nice contrasting effect when the shroud is open. The fabric is woven with a twill weave, which makes diagonal lines visible.
