Shrouds are an alternative to a coffin.

Shrouds

Wikkelgoed was created from the growing need for alternative ways of burial and cremation. When saying goodbye, a coffin can have a distant, unnatural appearance. We would like to offer an open alternative for this: shrouds.

Shrouds

A shroud is a large piece of fabric that can be wrapped around a deceased person. In combination with a carrier, this cloth can completely replace a coffin. During a the ceremony, the shroud is usually completely closed. The fabric, compared to the hard wood of a coffin, reduces the distance between the deceased and the relatives. The figure remains visible, it is not hidden in a coffin. This makes saying goodbye to a loved one more personal. During a wake, the shroud can be left open. The fabric can then be draped around the head, creating a beautiful image. The shroud can also be fastened to the carrier using one of our Shroud straps.

A personal farewell

In the days following the death of a loved one, saying goodbye in an open, peaceful way can be very valuable. Often, people do not consider how decoration can contribute to the experience of such moments. It turns out that for many people, personal decoration is highly valued. Our simple shrouds offer the space for personalization, such as embroidery. The body can also be shrouded by relatives, an act that is often experienced as a cherished ritual.

Natural materials

More and more people are choosing a natural way to say goodbye. We fully support this development and want our products to match these ceremonies. For natural burial, only naturally degradable materials can be used. That is why all our shrouds are naturally degradable. Our shrouds are made of hemp textile and organic cotton, among other things. Hemp is a particularly sustainable material, and our cotton is organically grown. The wood we use for our Willow shell is all pruning wood, which is not extra harmful to the environment. Our other stretchers are made of soft wood types such as beech and poplar.
